Unbeaten Potsdam takes down Tupper Lake Lumberjacks
POTSDAM – Potsdams, the fifth-ranked Class C football team in New York state, proved to be too much for Tupper Lake to handle.
On Friday, the Lumberjacks fell on the road, dropping a 56-19 setback to the Sandstoners. Potsdam raced out to a 22-0 lead and never looked back to improve to 6-0.
Senior running back Owen Robertson paced Potsdam on the ground, carrying the ball 16 times for 144 yards and two rushing touchdowns. He scored the first touchdown of the game on a 38-yard run with 4:55 remaining in the first quarter. The ‘Stoners upped their lead to 14-0 less than three minutes later on a 9-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Will Coleman to Connor Worden.
Coleman also tossed a 51-yard scoring strike to Travis Hall and ran for a 5-yard touchdown in the third quarter. In addition to rushing for a pair of touchdowns, Robertson also scored on a 103-yard interception return of a Morgan Stevens pass in the third quarter.
Senior tailback Jeremy Roussel paced the 2-4 Lumberjacks on offense. He rand for 129 yards on 27 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. His first touchdown was on a two-yard plunge in the second quarter, and his second came on a nine-yard carry in the final period. Tupper Lake’s other touchdown came on a 33-yard scoring pass throw by Stevens to Cody LaPierre just 15 seconds before halftime.
The Lumberjacks next host Canton, Saturday, Oct. 19 starting at 1:30 p.m.
