Tug Hill braces for 1st snow
OSWEGO (AP) – Cold air is slowly building over the Great Lakes, and heavy lake-effect snow is in the forecast for upstate New York east of Lake Ontario.
A weather system over Iowa will move off the Mid-Atlantic Coast today and bring much colder air into the middle of the state. Some lake-effect rain and snow is predicted for northern Oswego and Oneida counties, and lightning and thunder are possible near the lake.
Five to nine inches of snow are expected over higher elevations, and Lewis County in the Tug Hill Plateau region likely will bear the brunt of the storm.
The Tug Hill area lies just north of Syracuse between the east end of Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains. It’s the most snowed-upon area east of the Rocky Mountains.
