Red Storm girls race to victories

CLINTONVILLE – The Saranac Lake girls cross country team picked up two wins Tuesday in a meet at AuSable Valley High School.

Sophie Theron was the Red Storm’s top finisher after placing second in 23 minutes, 18 seconds. Claire Deshaies of Plattsburgh won the race in 23:01.

Johanna Mohrs wasn’t far behind Theron, finishing third in 23:25. Other Saranac Lake runners were Grace Sullivan (fifth place in 23:53), Jackie Garso (eighth in 24:55) and Jacinda Riggs (ninth in 25:13).

The Red Storm beat Plattsburgh 27-28 and AuSable Valley 15-50.

In the boys race, Zane Pelleteri was the top Saranac Lake runner with his second-place finish in 19:00. Jeriqho Gadway won the race in 17:19.

Adam Branch finished 13th for Saranac Lake with a time of 21:39.

The Saranac Lake boys fell in the team scoring – 19-44 against Plattsburgh and 26-29 against AuSable Valley.

Saranac Lake boys and girls runners will compete in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference meet Saturday in Peru.


Tupper Lake 3, Brushton-Moira 1

TUPPER LAKE – The Tupper Lake volleyball team used a balanced attack to beat Brushton-Moira 3-1 on Tuesday.

Jordan Burnett had a strong serving match for the Lumberjacks with 13 points. She also chipped in three kills, three digs and one block.

Jessie Weigand led the way defensively with 17 digs, to go along with six points and two aces. Teammates Nicki Jessie and Sidney Kulzer each put down 10 kills. Kulzer also had six aces, nine points and two digs. Jessie had eight digs, two aces and six points.
