Mattilio leads PSC to team title

CONCORD, N.H. – Paul Smith’s College freshman Chloe Mattilio outran the field Saturday to take first place in the Yankee Small College Conference cross country championships.

Mattilio’s performance, combined with strong outings by Ashley Evans, Corrie Desilets, Jessie Husmann and Lea Anthony, propelled the Bobcats to the team championship.

Mattilio, a Lancaster, Pa. native, won the 6-kilometer race in 24 minutes, 21 seconds to beat runner-up Kate Colburn of Nashua Community College who finished in 25:19. Paige Wiechman of University of Maine Machias was third in 25:33, Meghan McGarry of Hampshire College was fourth in 25:59 and Evans was fifth in 26:08.

Desilets placed eighth with a time of 27:45. Husmann finished 10th in 28:02, just ahead of Anthony who finished 11th in 28:43.

Paul Smith’s won the team title with 25 total points, followed by Hampshire with 53 and Nashua with 55.

The Paul Smith’s men finished second in the team scoring behind New Hampshire Technical Institute, which scored 33 points. The Bobcats scored 37 points, Hampshire had 65 and Nashua came in with 100 points.

Louis Ferrone was the Bobcats’ top runner with his fourth-place finish in 29:29. Teammate Zach Davidson placed fifth in 29:50, while Jack Mulvihill was ninth in 31:08.

Nacho Hernando of NHTI was the top men’s finisher with a time of 27:13. Aaon Lindeke-Myers of Hampshire College was second in 28:26 and Taylor Noble of Unity was third in 28:52.

The Paul Smith’s runners will compete in the 20th annual Pumpkin Muffin 5k race on Saturday at the school. The fun race will be used as a tune-up for the United States Collegiate Athletic Association national championships.
