Demong appears on ‘Today’ show
Olympic gold and silver medalist Billy Demong made an appearance on NBC’s “Today” show Tuesday to help the network recognize the 100-days-away point from the start of the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.
Demong, a Vermontville native and a defending Nordic combined ski champion from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, was in a three-minute segment along with “Today” host Matt Lauer. Demong did some reminiscing with Lauer on the 2010 games, including his feelings on being bestowed the honor of carrying the American flag in the closing ceremonies.
Donned in USA warmups, Demong also talked a bit about cross training and showed Lauer some basic tips on how to use roller skis. Demong then took a few glides on his wheeled skis, and Lauer followed suit while looking fairly comfortable in the process.
Demong, who grew up skiing and ski jumping in the Adirondacks and now lives in Park City, Utah, is looking to compete in his fifth Olympic Winter Games.
