Hoyt promoted to sergeant at Tupper Lake Police Department

TUPPER LAKE – Officer Wesley Hoyt was promoted to sergeant last week.

Hoyt has been a patrol officer and field training officer with the Tupper Lake village police department since 2000. He was with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office prior to that. Village Police Chief Eric Proulx is the only person who’s been with the department longer than Hoyt.

The village board approved the promotion during last week’s meeting.

Hoyt was one of two officers who took the civil service exam to become eligible for the promotion. Proulx’s decision on whom to promote was made easy when the other officer decided not to go for the position.

Hoyt will take on more administrative duties and supervise patrol officers.

Proulx said the department now has two sergeants, but one, Sgt. Sean Stradley, is out on medical leave. Stradley has been out about a month for injuries he suffered in 2012 during a search for local resident Colin Gillis. Stradley has been limited in his duties since then.
