Paul Smith’s women drop second game of USCAA tourney

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Maine-Machias women’s soccer team more than made up for its shootout loss in the Yankee Small College Conference final with a dominating 5-0 victory over Paul Smith’s on Thursday in the consolation bracket of the USCAA national tournament.

The Clippers scored early and often, taking a 3-0 lead into halftime. Cayla Thomas scored in the first minue, Kylynn Adams scored 10 minutes later and Emma LeGallais piled on at the 34:15 mark.

The second half was more of the same as Clayre Saunders scored at 69:40 and LeGallais netted her second goal in the 89th minute.

Maine outshot the Bobcats 29-7. Asenath Brooks was credited with 14 saves for Paul Smith’s.

The Bobcats were eliminated from the tournament with the loss, dropping their season record to 9-5-1.

Paul Smith’s opened tournament play Wednesday with a 2-0 loss to host school West Virginia University Tech. WVU Tech went on to lose to Daemen College in the quarterfinals, leaving the final four teams as Maine-Fort Kent, Alfred State, Albany College of Pharmacy and Daemen.

Maine-Fort Kent beat Alfred State 2-1 on Friday and Albany College of Pharmacy faced Daemen.
