Piercefield woman charged with abusing cat

PIERCEFIELD – A Piercefield woman was arrested Thursday morning after she allegedly abused a cat during a dispute at her grandmother’s house.

Shauna L. Charron, 27, was charged with torturing, injuring or not feeding an animal, a misdemeanor count under state Agriculture and Markets Law, as well as second-degree reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and second-degree harassment.

State police said the charges stem from a domestic disturbance at Charron’s grandmother’s house. Charron was intoxicated, police said, and when confronted by a family member about her drinking, she became hostile, grabbed a cat and twisted its body and its head. The animal reportedly “winced in pain,” but police had no information about any injuries it may have suffered.

Charron was arrested at 9 a.m. Thursday. She was arraigned on the charges in Piercefield town court and remanded to the St. Lawrence County Jail. Charron was scheduled to appear in court again Friday.
