Police: Jay man defrauded worker’s compensation
JAY – A Jay man faces multiple felony counts for allegedly defrauding the state’s workers’ compensation system.
Patrick E. Diello, 51, was arrested Wednesday by Wilmington-based state police. He was charged with five counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing and single counts of third-degree grand larceny and third-degree insurance fraud, which involves a theft of greater than $3,000. Diello also faces two charges of violating state Workers’ Compensation Law: fraudulent insurance practices and fraudulent practices, both of which are felonies.
Ray Brook-based state police said Friday the charges involve a workers’ compensation fraud case, but they weren’t immediately able to provide any more information on the allegations.
Following his arrest, Diello was released on his own recognizance to appear in Jay town court at a later date.
