Turkey Trot draws 198 participants

LAKE PLACID – Runners and walkers came from far and wide to participate in the fifth annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot last week, braving single-digit temperatures, ice, snow and high winds.

Participants from as far as Colorado, Georgia and Maine were part of a field of 198 competitors that took on the 3.1-mile course that started in the Olympic Oval.

Dominic Morganti, a 14-year-old from Syracuse, was the top overall finisher with a time of 17 minutes, 40 seconds. He was followed by Jeff Dengate of Jersey City, N.J. who finished in 17:44 and Brett Merkel of Brant Lake in 18:12.

Patricia Hurlburt of Keene Valley was the top woman with a time of 20:52, followed by Queensbury’s Justine Mosher (20:57) and Lake Placid High School graduate Heidi Baumbach (21:15).

Proceeds from the event went to support food pantries in the Tri-Lakes region and Adirondack Health’s Fit for Life Scholarship fund.
