Tri-Lakes ‘Messiah’ Sing Sunday in Tupper?Lake
TUPPER LAKE – The annual Tri-Lakes “Messiah” Sing returns to Tupper Lake, features top performers at 3 p.m. Sunday at Holy Name Catholic Church, 113 Main St., Tupper Lake.
Tupper Lake’s own High Peaks Opera will host the annual Tri-Lakes Community Sing of Handel’s “Messiah,” featuring some of the northern Adirondacks’ most accomplished performers and holiday music with the audience performing the choruses, including “Hallelujah.”
A free-will offering is requested at the door, and a reception will follow the performance, featuring holiday goodies provided by the Tupper Lake Arts Council.
North Country Public Radio is media sponsor for this event, and, as every year, no performers are being paid for their services. Artists will include pianist Elizabeth Cordes and organist Curtis Mercier, along with the Tri-Lakes Community Orchestra, featuring violinists Elaine Dewar, Sue Berkowitz, and Bill Stokes, cellist Brian Donat, violist Dorit Gaektke, and Keith Kogut on trumpet.
Soloists include soprano Kimberly Weems, soprano Marie Cogar, alto Helen Demong, alto Marcy Hough, tenor Christopher Gould, and bass George Cordes. Other performers include the Backwater Recorder Consort, featuring Ginny West, Kelly Hass, and Marty Lawthers.
All area singers and choral groups are encouraged to attend, and a limited number of Messiah scores will be available. Choruses to be performed will include “And the Glory of the Lord,” “And He Shall Purify,” “O Thou That Tellest Good Tidings to Zion,” “For Unto Us a Child Is Born,” “Glory to God in the Highest,” “Hallelujah,” and “Worthy Is The Lamb/Amen.”
All choruses will be conducted by HPO Artistic Director George Cordes.
The singers also encourage the attendance of those who simply wish to sit and listen to this festive music.
