Public meetings set on Broadway project
SARANAC LAKE – The village Board of Trustees has scheduled a pair of public information meetings on a major downtown infrastructure project scheduled to take place this spring.
The meetings on the Broadway reconstruction project will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 15 and 22 and the village offices on the second floor of the Harrietstown Town Hall, 39 Main St.
The project involves work on Broadway from Dorsey Street to Bloomingdale Avenue: replacement of water and sewer lines, storm drainage, sidewalks, lighting and road reconstruction. The work is scheduled to begin April 1, weather permitting, and would take place during the night, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m., to minimize the disruption to traffic on one of the village’s busiest streets.
Village Manager John Sweeney said the informational meetings are being held to “update the public and say this is what’s going to be happening, these are the timeframes, listen to what any of the concerns and see if we can modify or incorporate them into the plan.”
The village had planned to do the work this fall before the project was pushed back to the spring.
The project came up last winter after an 80-year-old water main that runs beneath Broadway burst. In mid February, it and its lateral lines sprang multiple leaks, which flooded the road and the basement of at least one business. The road was closed for five days until all the leaks could be located and fixed.
