Tupper picks up another win
BRUSHTON – The Tupper Lake boys basketball team continued its strong start to the season Thursday night with a 57-43 victory over Brushton-Moira.
Mitch Keniston had 13 points and 10 rebounds and Roger Delair contributed seven points and 13 rebounds to lead the Lumberjacks to their fourth win of the season. Tupper Lake is 4-0 overall and 2-0 in Northern Athletic Conference games.
The Lumberjacks led for most of the game but pulled away in the second half, outscoring Brushton 14-10 in the third and 15-11 in the fourth.
“We had some strong inside play and got transition baskets,” said Tupper Lake coach Steve Skiff.
Anson Gagnier chipped in 10 points, while teammates Morgan Stevens and Devin Larson each had seven.
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday against Norwood-Norfolk for their first home game of the season.
Northern Adirondack 65, Saranac Lake 41
SARANAC LAKE – The Northern Adirondack boys basketball team outscored Saranac Lake 38-11 in the first half and hung on to secure a 65-41 victory Thursday night.
The Red Storm got into the flow in the second half, but by then it was too late to make a run at the Bobcats’ advantage.
Carl Bevilacqua led Saranac Lake in the scoring column with 15 points, while teammate Devin Cowan chipped in 10.
Josh Juntunen scored 15 points, Ethan King had 12, Bailey Cross had 11 and Darien Velasquez hit for 10 to pace the Bobcats.
Saranac Lake outscored NAC 30-27 in the second half.
Westport 40, Lake Placid 20
WESTPORT – The Westport girls basketball team kept Lake Placid under 10 points in every quarter Thursday to take control of a 40-20 Northern Basketball League victory.
Hanna Potter scored seven points and Adele Jesmer drained a 3-pointer to lead the way for the Blue Bombers.
Westport’s Brendee Russell led all scorers in the game with 15. Danielle Schwoebel did her part for the Eagles with 12 points.
Lake Placid led 4-2 after the first quarter, but Westport rallied with a 19-6 second quarter and 14-6 third.
Ogdensburg 2, Tupper Lake 0
OGDENSBURG – The Tupper Lake boys hockey team fell to 0-4 with a 2-0 loss to Ogdensburg on Thursday.
Dave Prudhomme recorded 18 saves in the shutout effort for OFA. Jared Barr and Mark Morrow accounted for the goals.
Ogdensburg is 3-3 on the season.
