Catania hired to remain superintendent

LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid Central School District Board of Education voted Tuesday night to hire Roger Catania, who has been acting superintendent of the district for about six months, as the district’s permanent superintendent.

Board members voted to approve a contract with Catania that runs through June 30, 2017.

In the first year of his contract, Catania will make $120,000.

“Thank you for your confidence in me,” Catania told the board after their vote.

He said he’s excited to look ahead and continue working with the district’s faculty, students and school board.

“I’m just excited for the future,” he said.

School board President Mary Dietrich said board members feel the same way.

Catania is originally from Westchester County, but he has lived in Saranac Lake for most of the last 16 years. He worked for the Lake Placid Central School District as a school counselor for a number of years before leaving to continue his education.
