Heartwarming kindness at Tupper Mobil

The holiday season generally brings us closer to people. I would like to share a story with you.
My son, Nick, is a student at St. Lawrence University, was on his way home for the Christmas holidays and did not have enough gas to get home to Fort Edward. So he called me from a Mobil station in Tupper Lake. I work in Albany, which is 149 miles or two hours and 33 minutes away. I was not really sure how to help him at this point.
I asked him to go into the gas station and ask if I could call and give them my credit card info so he could get gas to get home. I spoke with the manager at the Mobil station (Joe Scungio), and he informed me that it was against their policy to take the information over the phone. He wished he could help me out but could not.
So I called my son back and told him that he would have to stay there until I got there because they could not help us out. While I was on the phone with my son, the manager (Joe) offered to buy my son a gas card, using his own money.
I cannot truly put into words how grateful and appreciative I was for his caring and considerate help in my time of genuine need.
So out of the kindness of this stranger, who has no idea who we are – he truly is a good man to help me and my son out of this crazy situation.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you for taking time to slow down and help in today’s fast-paced world. It does make a difference!
