Ex-convict sentenced for man’s beating death
ELIZABETHTOWN (AP) – The last of three northern New York men convicted of beating another man to death last year has been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
The Press-Republican of Plattsburgh reports that the Essex County judge who sentenced 41-year-old Paul Taylor to the maximum term on Monday referred to him as “a dangerous psychopath.”
Taylor was convicted in October of second-degree murder in the death of Robert Rennie. Authorities say Taylor and two other men beat Rennie to death in Keeseville in August 2012.
The others, Scott Denno and Michael Rivers, were convicted of manslaughter and gang assault. Denno was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Rivers is awaiting sentencing.
Taylor had served 14 years for a prior conviction in connection with the death of a man in Moriah in 1997.
