Frenette jumps in Austria
TAUPLITZ, Austria (AP) – Peter Prevc of Slovenia won the second and last World Cup ski flying event of the season Sunday to earn the crystal globe in the discipline.
Prevc finished on 180 points to beat Noriaki Kasai of Japan, who became the oldest winner of a ski jump competition at the age of 41 at Saturday’s competition.
Peter Frenette of Saranac Lake jumped 157.5 for 128.5 points, but did not qualify for a second jump.
It was the first individual victory for Prevc, who has won five World Cup team events.
Prevc received 369.0 points for jumps of 186 and 198 meters to edge Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria by 2.1 points. Kasai took third with 365.8 points.
Kamil Stoch of Poland finished ninth and remained in the overall lead with 627 points. Defending overall champion Schlierenzauer overtook Ammann and now trails Stoch by 11 points in second place.
The next World Cup ski jump event is in Wisla, Poland, on Thursday.
