Lions pull away late to beat Blue Bombers

LAKE PLACID – The Elizabethtown-Lewis boys basketball team made a late run Thursday night to pull away from Lake Placid for a 45-37 Northern Basketball League victory.

The Lions led 28-25 going into the fourth quarter but used timely shooting at the end of the game to secure the victory.

Tarik Cecunjanin of Lake Placid led all scorers with 15 points. Teammate Chris Kordziel contributed nine points.

Austin Morris led the way for the Lions with 10 points, followed by Zac Noka-Bailey and Connor Marvin, who each scored nine points.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Northeastern Clinton 70, Saranac Lake 33

SARANAC LAKE – The Northeastern Clinton girls basketball team built a sizable first half lead and extended it even further in the third quarter on the way to a 70-33 victory over Saranac Lake on Thursday.

The Cougars left no doubt with a 24-6 advantage in the third.

Katie Buckley was the leading scorer for Saranac Lake with eight points.

Northeastern Clinton’s Shaylyn Rowe led all scorers with 15 points, followed by Kayla Carder with 14.

GIRLS HOCKEY

Massena 8, Saranac Lake 0

MASSENA – The Massena girls hockey team scored four goals in the third period to lock up an 8-0 victory over Saranac Lake on Wednesday.

Arianna Patraw turned away 44 of the 49 shots she faced in goal for Saranac Lake. Lindsay Reeve shared the goaltending duties for the Red Storm and stopped nine of the 10 shots that came her way.

Massena outshot Saranac Lake 59-11.

Katie MacCuaig scored two goals for the Red Raiders.
