Teacher receives grant for laptops in chemistry class

In July 2013, Amanda Zullo, chemistry teacher at Saranac Lake High School, was awarded the American Chemical Society Hach grant.

This award provides $1,500 in grant money to fund a project called “Nailing It: Enhancing Macroscopic, Particulate and Symbolic Understanding in Chemistry.”

With the grant money, Zullo purchased laptops for her chemistry classroom. Students will be utilizing the laptops to study chemistry concepts using animations that show the three different perspectives.

With the use of guided-inquiry designed materials the goal is that students will develop a more in-depth understanding of how the phenomenon works and can connect to the impacts of the items on our world.

This marks Zullo’s second Hach grant awarded to educators for innovative educational practices in Chemistry.
