Red Storm girls hockey back on winning side

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac Lake girls hockey team turned in a strong defensive effort to fend off Salmon River for a 1-0 victory Tuesday at the Saranac Lake Civic Center.

The win put an end to a 13-game losing streak for the Red Storm (2-14).

Morgan Farmer scored the game-winning goal at the 5:53 mark of the third period on an assist from Jillian Martin.

Lindsay Reeve had a spectacular game in net for the Red Storm, stopping all 31 shots she faced. Salmon River held a decisive 31-8 advantage in shots on goal.

Abby Grant made seven saves for the Shamrocks.

Saranac Lake will host Lake Placid on Monday.


Northern Adirondack 54, Saranac Lake 32

SARANAC LAKE – The Northern Adirondack girls basketball team used a big opening quarter to take control of what turned into a 54-32 victory over Saranac Lake on Tuesday.

Katie Buckley scored 10 points and Jenny Ward contributed eight to lead the way for the Red Storm.

Northern Adirondack’s Jillian Scott led all scorers with 14 points, while teammates Rachael Venne and Makenna Magee chipped in 13 points apiece.

The Bobcats led 16-2 after the first quarter. The Red Storm reduced the deficit to 25-13 at halftime, but Northern Adirondack took control with a 29-19 second half.

Saranac Lake returns to action Thursday on the road against Beekmantown.


Westport 45, Lake Placid 36

WESTPORT – The Lake Placid boys basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit Tuesday night and had to settle for a 45-36 loss to Westport.

Tarik Cecunjanin led the Blue Bombers with 12 points, followed by Chris Kordziel and Scott Rossi with eight points apiece.

Anderson Gay racked up 17 points and nine rebounds to pace the Eagles, who took a 26-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.
