Fill empty storefronts
Ever think of opening your own business, or expanding one you presently own? Here is an opportunity for everyone to embrace in helping downtown Saranac Lake grow.
The Adirondack Economic Development Corporation has partnered with the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and the village of Saranac Lake to stimulate small business development with a loan program and business classes.
There are more empty storefronts than we’d like to see, but with assistance from this partnership – and more importantly, from entrepreneurs – Saranac Lake’s downtown could become vibrant and healthy once again.
Entrepreneurship classes will begin Wednesday, Feb. 12 with basic business skill training over 12 sessions. It is a nationally accredited program that can help you start or expand a business, and help develop ideas to create a solid business plan.
While a business might have a great skill or product, there still needs to be knowledge of marketing, financial record-keeping and financing in order to be successful.
Here is a chance to learn all aspects of a business, including how to get money to start it. Financing the business is the key to this partnership, with the village dedicating $50,000 for small business loans and AEDC matching that to put a total of $100,000 to the loan pool.
Saranac Lake’s economy looks bright. With renovations, expansion and newly created partnerships being in the works for such projects as the Hotel Saranac, Crescent Bay Marina, a new Lake Flower hotel, A North Country Community College Welcome Center and a partnership between Trudeau Institute and Clarkson University, it certainly seems like we are poised for economic success.
So be a part of this resurgence and sign up for these classes. They are tentatively slated for 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday evenings at the AEDC offices above Adirondack Bank at 67 Main St., Suite 300, Saranac Lake.
Class size is limited, so sign up now, since it is starting Feb. 12. Call AEDC at 518-891-5523 or email Jim Murphy at email@example.com for more information.
