Moriah races past Blue Bombers

LAKE PLACID – The Moriah boys basketball team exploded for 29 points in the first quarter Tuesday night on the way to a 72-50 Northern Basketball League victory over Lake Placid.

The Vikings led by 16 points at halftime and extended the advantage with a 16-6 third quarter.

Tarik Cecunjanin racked up 14 points and seven assists to pace the Blue Bombers. Teammate Chris Kordziel chipped in nine points and Jay Reid scored seven.

Taylor Slattery and Adam Jaquish each scored 18 points for Moriah.

Lake Placid returns to action Thursday at home against Seton Catholic.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Saranac 60, Saranac Lake 26

SARANAC LAKE – The Saranac girls basketball team scored early and often Tuesday night and never let up in a 60-26 victory over Saranac Lake.

The Chiefs led 30-15 at halftime and extended the lead even further with a 23-6 third quarter.

Katie Buckley scored six points and Katelyn Hewitt had five to lead the way for the Red Storm.

Saranac’s Tori Trim led all scorers with 16 points, nine of which came on 3-pointers.

Chateaugay 43, Tupper Lake 13

CHATEAUGAY – The Chateaugay girls basketball team kept Tupper Lake under five points in every quarter Tuesday on the way to a 43-13 Northern Athletic Conference victory.

Lizzie Zurek was the leading scorer for the Lumberjacks with eight points.

Caitlin Miller and Abby Barnes scored 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
