Big Tupper off to a strong start

TUPPER LAKE – After a winter of little snow cover, there was finally enough powder to create a good base for skiing at the Big Tupper Ski Area last weekend.

“Opening weekend went very well,” said ARISE (Adirondack Residents Intent on Saving their Economy) Chairman Jim LaValley. “There were a couple of thin spots, but overall we’re very happy.”

More than 300 people skied and snowboarded the eight trails that were open. They were serviced by Chair 2 and the rope tow. If recent snowfalls persist, LaValley said Chair 3 could be opened soon, granting access to more trails.

The mountain will remain open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Presidents’ Day weekend, and maybe longer if the snow cover remains intact.
