Albert S. Becker
Albert S. Becker, 86, of Tupper Lake passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014.
He was born in Tupper Lake on April 14, 1927, to Herbert and Margaret Becker. Al left high school in his junior year in order to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. He returned to school and graduated from Tupper Lake High School in 1947.
Al began work at a young age including employment at AB Flanders, the Oval Wood Dish, the State Theater, the Veterans Administration Hospital, and Sunmount DDSO, from which he retired in 1989 after a combined 40 years of service. He once served on the St Alphonsus Parish Council.
He married Carol Ryan on Sept. 16, 1956 in Tupper Lake.
In retirement, Al enjoyed working with his brothers Bob and Charlie, carpentry, gardening, maintaining his apartment building, and spending time with his family. In his later years, he especially enjoyed sitting on his deck visiting with his wife, children, and his many grandchildren. He had a great sense of humor and was an animated story teller who could describe an event such that you felt as though you were there.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol; his daughters: Susan Johnston of Chateaugay and her companion Jules Callaghan; Patti Dattola and her husband Paul; Judy Shumway and her companion Kurt Garrelts; and Cindy Larkin and her husband Tim; grandchildren: Jamie (Becker) Coryea, Michael and Ryan Becker, Jessica, Kimberly, and Amanda Johnston, Jason and Allysa Dattola, Shauni and Alexa Shumway and Chelsea and Timmy Larkin; great-grandchildren: Alison and Jacob Johnston, Jesse and Adrianna Dattola, Hailey and Collin Becker, and Landen Becker; brothers Charles, Bob and his wife Maureen, Gene and his wife Day Day; a sister Margaret Benware; and several nieces and nephews.
Al was predeceased by his parents; his son, Steve; and his sisters Dorothy Spinner and Rose Shaheen.
