New version of Lake Placid documentary to premiere Saturday
LAKE PLACID – On the 34th anniversary of the Miracle on Ice, an updated version of the PBS documentary “Small Town, Big Dreams: Lake Placid’s Olympic Story” will debut at a free screening in Lake Placid this Saturday.
The screening, part of the village’s celebration of the Sochi Olympics, will be shown at 7 p.m. on the Olympic viewing screen at Mid’s Park on Main Street, followed by NBC’s live prime-time broadcast of the action from Sochi.
“Small Town, Big Dreams” was broadcast on PBS stations across the country during the 2010 Winter Games. The latest version continues to chronicle and update the town’s story with new material highlighting the recent successes of local athletes and Lake Placid’s continuing role as a Winter Olympic hub.
The one-hour film traces Lake Placid’s Olympic legacy as it relives the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics and Team USA’s Miracle on Ice hockey victory over the Soviet Union.
