Comments on Carnival? Village, committee want to hear
SARANAC LAKE – Following Thursday’s post-Winter Carnival debriefing between Winter Carnival Committee volunteers and village officials, the village will host a public comment period at the start of its regular board meeting Monday, starting at 5:30 p.m. at the village offices inside the Harrietstown Town Hall, 39 Main St.
Carnival Committee Chairman Eric Foster, other committee members, and the village mayor and Board of Trustees will be present to listen to public comments concerning Winter Carnival.
The debriefing came in response to especially large crowds and traffic at this year’s Winter Carnival. During the meeting, Carnival Committee members and village officials explored better traffic control, increased parking and parking directional signage, additional and better restroom facilities, and pedestrian safety across River Street opposite the Ice Palace, the centerpiece of the Winter Carnival.
“It was a productive and positive meeting and our strong partnership grows even more so,” Mayor Clyde Rabideau said in a press release.
The Winter Carnival Committee organizes and orchestrates the many events associated with the annual festival. The village separately supplies support with its public works department, police department and financial aid.
Rabideau said he trusts the public will give constructive ideas and observations during the comment period in a “respectful manner.
“We’re all on the same team, and we all love the Carnival, and we all want to stay positive,” he said.
