Concert raises roughly $4,000 for food pantries

SARANAC LAKE – A final figure hasn’t been calculated yet, but a benefit concert Saturday is believed to have raised about $4,000 for local food pantries.

Keith and Doreen Gorgas and Daun Reuter are the lead organizers of the fourth annual event, called North Country Musicians Unite for Local Food Pantries.

The Adirondack Carousel was the location of the concert for the second straight year. The tent-shaped building was jam-packed with audience members for most of the event.

From before noon until 9 p.m., 20 acts performed, hailing from throughout the region from Saranac Lake to Montreal. Some, like Roy Hurd and Josee Allard, were solo artists who approached the mics with just voices and acoustic guitars. Others, like Soma Beats African dance troupe and the Shamrock jam band, crowded the stage with nine or more performers. Musical genres ranged from country to folk to blues to hard rock.
