Decker captures state triple

WILMINGTON – Saranac Lake’s Cecily Decker showed her skiing talent at the New York State Ski Racing Association’s state championships held at Whiteface Mountain recently.

Decker took three first place awards and one second-place trophy. She won super-G, giant slalom and slalom races while finishing second in the first of two super-Gs.

Decker’s main competition was Beatrix Lever, who took first in the super-G that Decker didn’t win and second in all of the others.

The two are both members of the New York Ski Education Foundation at Whiteface Mountain.

Dillon Smith, a NYSEF skier who attends Northwood, placed fourth in Saturday’s giant slalom and fifth in Thursday’s super-G.

The two super-G races took place last Thursday. One race was scheduled to take place Friday but was moved up a day due to the forecast of heavy rains. The giant slalom races took place Saturday while the slalom races took place Sunday.
