Police: Woman tried to stab, choke man

SARANAC LAKE – A local woman was arrested Thursday night for allegedly trying to stab and choke another person during what police described as a domestic dispute.

Tina M. Meddaugh, 43, of Saranac Lake, was charged with second-degree attempted assault, a class E felony, and three misdemeanors: criminal obstruction of breathing, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal mischief. She was arrested at 10:10 p.m.

Village police said in a press release that they were dispatched to Meddaugh’s residence on Bloomingdale Avenue for a report of a domestic altercation. Chief Bruce Nason told the Enterprise that Meddaugh and an adult male were involved in an argument that turned physical.

Meddaugh allegedly stried to stab the man with a kitchen knife. She’s also accused of trying to choke him and break his wireless phone to prevent him from calling police.

Nason said the man had scratches on his neck that appeared to be from fingernails, but otherwise he wasn’t injured.

Meddaugh was processed at the police station, arraigned in Harrietstown court and released under the supervision of probation to appear again at a later date.
