The Yasgur Band this weekend at Delta Blue

LAKE? PLACID – The Yasgur Band will perform this weekend at Delta Blue.

On Friday and Saturday, they’ll host “Nothing but Fun and Music” from 9 p.m. to midnight.

The Yasgur Band is a five-piece harp and guitar-driven blues band playing danceable swing, jump, and Chicago-style blues. Named after the legendary Max Yasgur of Woodstock fame, the core of Yasgur, Mike Moss, Dan Burger and Rich Johansen met at a jam session “just up the road” from the original Woodstock site, at The Dancing Cat Saloon in Bethel.

After hearing Rich sing and hearing Dan play the harp, Mike, a musical booking agent, approached the two musicians and asked if they would like to form a blues band. As there was no hesitation in their agreement, The Yasgur Band was born.

At that point, Yasgur worked as a three-piece unit, (guitar, drums, harmonica) perfecting their unique sound and approach to the blues.

After a year of wood shedding and playing small gigs, Steve Suresh, Tony Penn and Cecil Allen joined to perfect the Yasgur sound, and the groove, that they are known for today.

The current Yasgur Band is led by Mike Moss on drums, Rich Johansen on guitar and vocals, Dan Burger on harmonica, Tony Penn on slide guitar and Steve Suresh on bass guitar.

Delta Blue is located in Lake Placid at the Historic Northwoods Inn at 2520 Main St. Delta Blue features live music on Wednesday night with its Open Mic Blues Jam, and on Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight with an eclectic mix of regional blues artists and talented local musicians.
