World Music Festival will benefit Reason2Smile

LAKE PLACID – Reason2Smile will once again host its second World Music Festival benefit at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts Saturday with daytime programs and an evening of music and mingling.

There will be a variety of events throughout the day including a Kids Camp (three art activities one of which will be making African style soccer balls out of plastic grocery bags) from 10 a.m. to noon for kids ages 5 to 12 (pre-sale tickets are $10 at the door are $12) while at the same time offering a variety of workshops for people ages 13 and up.

Midday we’ll have some fun activities for the whole family and Green Goddess as our food vendor. In the afternoon, a number more workshops are available to all ages (10 and under free if accompanied by a participating adult -?$5 presale or $8 at the door) in a variety of areas of cultural dance, art, and spiritual practices.

The evening event will kick off at 6:30 p.m. in the marketplace and continue through 10 p.m. It’s an opportunity for people to learn about various cultures as well as support Reason2Smile.

There will be a number of performances by a number of the workshop leaders and various community members including a steele drum band, African kids and teen dances, Salsa, SUNY Plattsburgh Gospel Choir, North Country Cloggers and Wulaba/Soma beats -?African dance and drumming.

The Cowboy will offer an international tasting menu during the evening and there will be a Kenyan marketplace set up as well. David Sommerstein from the Beat Authority will be the master of ceremonies and will finish out the night with a DJ Dance Party.

Presale tickets are $10 adults ($12 at door) or $8 students ($10 at door) and children 10 and under are free.
