Basement fire put out in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID – A fire on Tuesday morning occurred in the basement of a home on 70 McKinley St.

Two residents were in the home at the time of the fire, which began around 8 a.m. The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department received the alarm at 8:19 a.m. and was on scene about three minutes later.

The fire was easily extinguished, department officials said. The first fire driver who arrived on the scene extinguished the fire with one water line.

Al Parmlee, a resident of the home, was standing out front during the fire.

“They saved my (stuff),” Parmlee said. “I got music equipment in there. They were on the spot in less than five minutes.”

The fire department was back at the station by 9:42 a.m. There were 23 members on scene. The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department stood by at the Lake Placid firehouse during the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
