Calling all Olympians

SARANAC LAKE – The Woman’s Civic Chamber of Saranac Lake invites all of the region’s past Olympians, regardless of which year’s Olympics they were in, to join 2014 Winter Olympians in a parade here Wednesday.

Seven 2014 Sochi Olympians have been confirmed for the parade, according to organizer Kelly Morgan. The newest addition is luger Aidan Kelly, a 19-year-old Long Islander who lives in Lake Placid for training. He’ll join bronze-medal-winning bobsled driver Jamie Greubel and five who were born and raised locally: biathletes Lowell Bailey, Tim Burke and Annelies Cook, nordic combined skier Bill Demong and ski jumper Peter Frenette.

Past Olympians interested in participating are asked to call Women’s Civic Chamber member Liz Murray at 518-524-5881.

The parade starts at 3:15 p.m. at the Adirondack Daily Enterprise, 54 Broadway, and proceeds through downtown to the Harrietstown Town Hall, 39 Main St., where Olympians will be available for autographs and photos in the auditorium.
