Gratitude for dealing with long winter

To the editor:

As we all have come to realize, this winter has been unusual with both snow and ice. I would like to publicly acknowledge the Lake Placid Village Highway Department, Brad Hathaway and the staff, who did a phenomenal job with snow removal and made our streets and sidewalks safe.

I have worked and lived in other areas that require winter maintenance, and none obtains the results seen here in Lake Placid. It amazes me, how quickly and with seemingly little effort snow is plowed, sidewalks are swept, salt and sand laid down. Thank you for your valiant performance.

A giant “thanks” to Butch Martin and the North Elba Parks District staff for their Herculean efforts in constructing and maintaining the skating track on Mirror Lake. I used it for exercise on many occasions and noted its popularity on a daily basis. I am delighted to see it is in the plans (weather permitting) for next winter season.
