Expect more snow this weekend (2nd update)
Get ready for more snow this weekend – but not as much as previously forecast, and likely mixed with rain and sleet.
Even though temperatures are predicted to rise as high as 40 degrees – warmer than it’s been recently – the National Weather Service website says 4 to 8 inches of new snow is possible Saturday night in Saranac Lake, plus 2 to 4 more inches Sunday.
For Lake Placid, it’s an inch less Saturday night but otherwise the same. For Tupper Lake, it’s significantly less: 1 to 3 inches Saturday night and 2 to 4 Sunday.
Other weather forecasters, like www.weather.com, show less snow in the mix. The Associated Press, citing the NWS office in Burlington, Vt., but with different figures than the NWS website, predicts 4 to 6 inches in Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake Saturday night and 2 to 4 inches in Lake Placid. For Sunday, it just calls for light snow accumulation.
Nevertheless, Adirondackers tend to be sick of winter these days, especially with the school spring break still two weeks away. For Saranac Lake village Manager John Sweeney, news of the impending snow was depressing.
“I’m waiting for sunshine,” he said Friday. “What is it Eddie Yanchitis says (on radio ads for his Tail o’ the Pup restaurant) – ’82 and blue’? I’m waiting for that.”
“I am divorcing winter,” Christie Casey added on the Enterprise Facebook page.
“I don’t want to shovel ANY MORE of that 4 letter S word!” Cheri Fisher wrote. “This is like an early April Fool’s Joke.”
“That’s why I live in Florida,” Todd Hayes added.
Gina Caudill wrote, “yay!” but Lois Hollan followed with “NoooOOOOOOOooooooo!”
