LASAR names Drobnicki as Volunteer of the Year

WARRENSBURG – At a recent membership meeting, Matt Drobnicki of Waterford was honored as the Lower Adirondack Search and Rescue’s 2013 Volunteer of the Year for his contributions to the team.

In addition to serving as membership director for 15 years, Drobnicki has participated on several area searches for missing persons and has provided countless hours of work with team fund raising efforts. Drobnicki has been a member of LASAR since 1993.

Also honored were team members Amy Johnson, Joe Boduch, Peter Benoit, Skip Durkee, Gary Schiavi and Nemec’s Sport and Garden Shop

Amy Johnson and Joe Boduch of Glens Falls jointly received the 2013 Summit Award given to a new team member for their commitment to the ideals of search and rescue. Johnson and Boduch were recognized for their efforts in supporting the training activities of the K-9 Team as well as their participation in searches and other LASAR events.

Peter Benoit of Queensbury received the 2013 Service Award for his fund raising efforts in his role as finance director and for participating in other Team activities.

Skip Durkee of Fort Edward received the Mark Walsh Memorial Award given to a member of LASAR who, “loves animals, the out of doors and upholds the traditions of LASAR assisting those in need in a wilderness setting.”

Gary Schiavi of Chestertown received the 2013 Starfish Award which recognizes a team member who makes a difference to LASAR in many ways to support the ideals of search and rescue.

Nemec’s Sport and Garden Shopin Warrensburg was the recipient of the Citizen’s Award for their continued support of LASAR.

LASAR was formed in 1990 to educate the public in safe outdoor practices and to make available trained volunteers to assist various agencies in search and rescue operations for lost persons. Today, LASAR is one of the largest land-based search and rescue team in New York State with over 80 active members.
