‘State of Walking’ Friday at BluSeed

SARANAC LAKE – Bluseed Studios in Saranac Lake is set to showcase work created by local photographer Shaun Ondak and painter Brittany Harris.

The exhibition is titled “State of Walking,” and it will be a one-day-only event Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.

“State of Walking” is a reflection on a recent trip Ondak and Harris made to Ecuador alongside Lucas Christenson and Ian Ater, owners of Fledging Crow Vegetables. The title reflects the fundamental necessity of getting around on foot while traveling in a place like Ecuador. It is a tip of the hat to the up-close-and-personal nature of spending time in developing country.

“The trip required self-motivation and self-empowerment,” Ondak said. “The mountains weren’t about to climb themselves, communication in Spanish did not come easy, and there was no screen between us and the experiences. Life was in high-definition on this trip, and being present in eachmoment was required to make it fun. I feel like the photos in this exhibit reflect that.”

“I always look forward to my time in Ecuador,” said Harris, who has been wintering in Ecuador for the past four years. It’s an entirely different vibe there, and it’s where my spiritual roots took hold. The paintings that I create when I’m there are vibrant and infused with a connection to generations past that is so evident in the culture there.”

The exhibition will feature the two artists, as well as traditional Ecuadorian food, coffee that the travelers carried back to the Adirondacks, and live music. Prints and originals of the photographs and paintings will be available for purchase at the exhibition.
