Newest ADE reporter wins college journalism award

SARANAC LAKE – Matthew Turner of Saranac Lake, a staff writer for the Adirondack Daily Enterprise since January, has won first place for Column/Opinion Writing in the New Jersey Collegiate Press Association’s 2013-14 College Newspaper Contest.

The association, based in West Trenton, N.J., announced the results of the contest Monday, March 24.

Turner grew up in Belcoville and Cape May, N.J., and majored in journalism at Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., graduating in December. He wrote for Rowan’s weekly newspaper, The Whit.

He won the award for “Momentum swings against domestic spy program,” part of his regular political column called The Washington Outsider.

For the Enterprise, Turner’s reporting beats are the Lake Placid area, Essex County, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid schools, and politics.

He also continues to write a monthly political column for Metro of Philadelphia, titled Independent Insight.
