The destruction of freedom

To the editor:

The foundation of every government is its people. The foundation of the people is NOT its government. The foundation of the people are the moral, ethical and spiritual beliefs they institute into their individual system of laws and regulations. A caring and compassionate society will always find a way to fairly represent the will of the majority while at the same time not injure or diminish the thoughts and aspirations of their minority voices. This is called compromise. Well-meaning and thought-out debate will take place to further and progress the society as a whole. Restrictions to this debate or voting system will be few, and input from all parts of the society will be welcome in order to make the most intelligent and informed decisions, given the information and technology available at the moment. Idealistic? Yes, but this should always be the focus and goal of any organization that has been chosen to represent their societies, no matter the size or scope.

Sadly, what is happening today is the exact opposite of the true path governments have been allowed to take. Under the guise of protectionism, a select few in governments have usurped the power from the people in order to maintain a structure of wealth and standing that ever increases the chasm between the haves and the have-nots. Protectionism has come in many forms. From military to environmental to basic issues of food, clothing and shelter, governments across the globe are ever tightening their grips on their respective populations and strangling the very freedoms that were essential in their institution.

This is not restricted to just governments, but major international and national corporations are using their fiscal power to reshape governmental philosophies for their own means and ends rather than the betterment of humankind as a whole. Scandals are rampant, the focus on the bottom line lasts one quarter rather than having clear and intelligent long-range plans. Corruption is the norm. Criminal activity has become so exposed that it is hardly newsworthy any more. Government secrets abound; any exposure of them is labeled a criminal act, even though the Freedom of Information Act gives the right of information back to the people. Subversive activity once thought of as illegal and immoral has now become a modis opporandi for governing. Invasion of other territories has prompted only complacency. Majority votes by the people are ignored on the world stage. Sovereignty has become a joke, and a so-called “New World Order” has become the rallying cry of the propagandic and brainwashing power structure. This emphasis has been taken up by an increasing number of sheep who think that entities should contain and rule the people rather than the opposite.

Where does this leave the people across the world? Chained, subservient and powerless groups whose only purpose is to serve the government and corporations that crack the whips across their backs. In other words, SLAVES. This is not freedom, creativity, progress or spirituality. It is the destruction of the human race as we know it. This is disaster in the making.
