Dr. Cook helps former patients find new doctors

SARANAC LAKE – Long-time local physician Dr. George S. Cook continues to play an active role serving the healthcare needs of the North Country.

Dr. Cook retired after 38 years of dedicated service at North Country Family Physicians where his colleague Dr. Barry Kilbourne continues to see patients. Now, Dr. Cook is seeing his former patients on Fridays at the Tupper Lake Health Center to provide care if needed, but also to connect them with a new primary care provider.

“This is a unique privilege that I have been handed by Adirondack Health,” Dr. Cook said. “Primary care is essential to a maintaining a healthy lifestyle, and I will work closely with individuals to ensure they have access to the care and medical providers that best meet their needs.”

In addition to his new role at the health center, Dr. Cook serves as the medical director for High Peaks Hospice and Medical Director for the Palliative Care program at Adirondack Health.

Dr. Cook has been providing family medicine and pediatric care in the region since 1976. The Adirondack Health Board of Trustees recently passed a resolution honoring Dr. Cook for his years of service.

The resolution by the board noted, “George S. Cook, M.D. faithfully provided compassionate, timely and responsive care to the residents of the Tri-Lakes and is held in the highest esteem by members of the medical community we acknowledge Dr. Cook’s many years of dedicated service and his significant contribution to the current and future success of Adirondack Health.”
