SARANAC LAKE – Rainfall and spring snowmelt triggered some minor flooding in the area Tuesday.
Brandy Brook in the village of Saranac Lake overflowed its banks and was running through the front yards of several homes and down Brandy Brook Avenue, Slater Avenue and into the intersection with Lake Flower Avenue and River Street. Several inches of water were pooled up in the intersection as of Tuesday evening.
Sections of Pine and Fawn streets were closed for part of Tuesday due to flooding.
Outside the village, the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a flooded basement at 1349 state Route 86, Janice Cogar’s residence on the Harrietstown hill, at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. The house had about 3 feet of water in its basement, firefighters said. Volunteers pumped out the basement and were back in service at 8:13 p.m.
There are no flood concerns elsewhere in Essex County, Emergency Services Director Don Jaquish said this morning. There was an ice jam in AuSable Forks, but it moved downriver on its own, he said.
