Police: Lake Placid man had 2 oz. of meth

LAKE PLACID – State police have provided some additional information about the arrest of a part-time local resident for allegedly possessing methamphetamine.

Ray Brook-based troopers said in a news release that Santos Salinas Jr. was charged Sunday with second-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class A felony. The 49-year-old, whose arrest was first reported in Monday’s Enterprise, has a residence in the town of North Elba and also in Phoenix, Arizona, police said.

As part of an investigation by the state police Narcotics Enforcement Unit, troopers said Salinas was found in possession of approximately 2 ounces of crystal methamphetamine. An ounce contains more than 28 grams.

State police spokeswoman Jennifer Fleishman said she couldn’t provide any more information about how and where the arrest was made because the investigation is ongoing and being kept confidential.

Salinas was arraigned in town of North Elba court and remanded to the Essex County Jail in Lewis in lieu of $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond.

State police said they were assisted in the investigation by the Lake Placid Police Department and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
