SL golfers triumph

RAY BROOK – The Saranac Lake golf team stayed unbeaten two matches into the season with a 6-0 victory at home Friday over Plattsburgh.

Playing for the first time at the Saranac Lake Golf Club in Ray Brook, all six Red Storm golfers earned victories, with all but one of the matches being decided by eight or more strokes.

The match was held under a modified situation as the seventh hole remained closed, resulting in a par 37 that saw competitors play the par-5, first hole twice.

Playing in the No. 2 match, junior Ethan Sawyer shot a match low 39 to top Plattsburgh’s Jake Messner by nine strokes.

In the closest contest of the day, Dustin Fischer fired a 42 to edge Matt Svarplaitis by a single stroke in the No. 1 match.

In the third pairing, Austin Ecret shot a 43 to defeat Matt Evans by eight shots. Carley Sawyer topped Mike Stetz 45-60 in the fourth match and Danny Strack earned a 42-50 win over Walker Gasrich at No. 5. Freshman Kyler Darrah defeated Jeremy Davis 51-65 in the sixth match.

Saranac Lake next travels to face Saranac Central Monday at the Barracks course in Plattsburgh.
