The Rev. Canon Frederick Carleton McQuade Jr.
ALBANY – The Rev. Canon Frederick Carleton McQuade Jr. left this life in peace surrounded by family on Friday, May 9, 2014.
He was the son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth S. McQuade. Born on May 15, 1933, in Albany, he spent his youth in Spencertown, graduating from Chatham High School, then attending Siena College and the General Theological Seminary in New York City.
He became ordained a Deacon at Christ Church Episcopal in Hudson and was ordained a Priest at The Church of the Messiah in Glens Falls,. Father McQuade served the church for more than 50 years in numerous parishes: St. Timothy’s Church, South Glens Falls; Christ Church, Middletown, N.J.; St. Eustace Church, Lake Placid; St. John’s Church, Troy; St. Sacrament, Bolton Landing; St. George’s Church, Schenectady; St. Paul’s Church, Albany; St. Luke’s Church, Catskill; and The Cathedral of All Saints, Albany, having been made an honorary canon in 2007.
Fr. McQuade was predeceased by his son, James F. R. McQuade, in 2010 and is survived by his daughter, Ivy E.S. McQuade Brockley, David C.H. (Janine) McQuade, and grandchildren Lydia T. Brockley and Nicholas C. Brockley. Additionally, his sister, Dorothy Hover, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive him.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan St., Albany, NY 12210.
A service of Christian burial, officiated by The Right Rev. William H. Love, Bishop; The Right Rev. David S. Ball, Bishop-in-Residence; The Very Rev. Marshall J. Vang and The Venerable Rev. David J. Collum, Dean, will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at The Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan St., Albany.
