Morgan gets things done, with a smile

To the editor:

I have been reading with great interest about the fiscal crisis in the Saranac Lake Central School District. There is no question that times are tough and will be before the district sees its way through. The district has been fortunate in that taxpayers have not taken out their personal frustration with the school district. Many times the business of education is in conflict with the education business. However, it should always come down to what is good for the students, and our taxpayers have always supported that concept. Thank you!

That being said, the reason for this letter is to endorse Kelly Morgan for a position on the Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education. I have known Kelly for more than 50 years, both as a neighbor living on Broadway and as a friend. It is said that if you want something done, ask a busy person to do it, and it will get done. Kelly is certainly a busy person, not only as the food service leader at St. Joseph’s Addiction Treatment and Recovery Centers in Saranac Lake but also as a volunteer for several community organizations. When I asked Kelly to help with the Adult Center’s Thanksgiving dinner a few years ago, she excitedly agreed. She has been doing the dinner ever since. I have sought help from Kelly at other times, and never once has she declined. When Kelly is asked to help with something, she puts everything she has into the project, and it never fails to succeed. This is the kind of person that we need making decisions about our school district and, more importantly, our students.

I believe Kelly would make a great addition to the Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education and would undertake the thankless job without an agenda or micromanaging. She can be tough when she needs to be (even with that permanent smile on her face) and will listen and make decisions fairly and without a personal agenda.
