Lake Placid golf gets through Peru
LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid golf team improved to 8-0 on the season with a 4-2 victory over Peru on Wednesday in a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference match.
It was the second loss of the season for the Indians, who lost their first match Monday against Saranac Lake 4.5-1.5. Peru is now 8-2.
Bjorn Kroes was the top scorer for the Blue Bombers on Wednesday with a 1-over-par 36. Playing in the No. 4 spot, the freshman’s only blemish was a bogey on the second hole. He parred every other hole.
Miles Lussi, Pat Kane and Lucas Strack accounted for Lake Placid’s other three wins. Lussi shot 46 in the No. 2 spot, Kane carded a 45 and Strack turned in a 41.
Jordan Guay was Peru’s top golfer. He shot a 37 to beat Kiefer Casler in the No. 1 position.
Lake Placid freshman Ryan Kane lost his match in the No. 3 position to Kyle Miller, who shot a 40. Kane carded a 41.
The Blue Bombers will face Beekmantown today at Craig Wood Golf Course.
Saranac Lake 6, Ticonderoga 0
TICONDEROGA – The Saranac Lake golf team kept its unbeaten record intact Wednesday with a 6-0 sweep of Ticonderoga.
Dustin Fischer took medalist honors for the Red Storm after shooting a 39 from the No. 2 position. Ethan Sawyer was next with a 41, followed by Austin Ecret (45), Carley Sawyer (46), Dan Strack (46) and Tanner Courcelle (47).
Ticonderoga’s top scorer was Zashan Afzal, who shot a 47 in the No. 1 spot.
Saranac Lake improved to 7-0 with the victory.
Beekmantown 6, Lake Placid 1
BEEKMANTOWN – The Beekmantown softball team scored two runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings to hand Lake Placid a 6-1 defeat.
The Blue Bombers scored in the top of the first, but the Eagles clamped down on defense from then on. Lexi Desrocher and Erin Downey provided the offense for Beekmantwon with three hits apiece.
Liz Bimonte had three singles and pitcher Carissa Kennedy had two as the Blue Bombers recorded nine total hits as a team.
Saranac 14, Saranac Lake 0
SARANAC – The Saranac Lake softball team was limited to two hits Wednesday as Saranac walked away with a 14-0 victory.
Tori Trim struck out 14 Red Storm batters on the way to the shutout victory for the Chiefs.
Saranac also benefitted from 13 walks.

MASSENA – Tupper Lake freshman Katie Zurek swept the throwing events Wednesday as the Lumberjacks boys and girls traveled for a three-way meet against Potsdam and Massena.
The Tupper Lake girls fell in the team scoring 112-106 to Potsdam and 142-108 to Massena. The Lumberjacks boys fell 105-77 to Potsdam and 142-70 to Massena.
Zurek had the longest throw in the shot put with a distance of 33 feet, 4.5 inches. She won the discus event with a 105-4.
Other Tupper Lake girls winners were Lizzie Zurek in long jump (14-5), Lauren Bouck in triple jump (31-2.5) and Tess Klossner in the 100 hurdles (19.2 seconds).
Jeremy Roussel, a senior, won the high jump with a 5-2 and Mitchell Harriman was a winner in the 800 for the Tupper Lake boys.
