Bombers golf closes in on perfect season

LAKE PLACID – 9-0 and one match to go.

The Lake Placid golf team is one win away from an undefeated season and a Champlain Valley Athletic Conference championship.

On Thursday, the Blue Bombers blanked Beekmantown 6-0 at Craig Wood to set up a showdown with Saranac Lake on Tuesday.

Juniors Miles Lussi and Lucas Strack led Lake Placid against Beekmantown, firing co-medalist rounds of 39 on Craig Wood’s back nine.

Kiefer Casler, Bjorn Kroes, Ryan Kane and Pat Kane also earned victories for the Blue Bombers.

Lussi picked up his win playing in the fourth match against Ryan Brienza, and Strack triumped at No. 6 over Hali Bell.

Playing in the top spot, Casler won by the closest margin, shooting a 42 to defeat Alex Faruqi, whose 46 was the lowest round of the day for the Eagles.

Kroes shot a 44 to top Evan Dyke in the second pairing, Ryan Kane shot a 46 at No. 3 to top Anthony Minanese. and Pat Kane carded a 43 in a win over Craig Bacon at No. 5.

Tuesday’s match against Saranac Lake will be played on the Red Storm’s home course in Ray Brook, and could well be a battle of unbeatens to determine the CVAC title. The Red Storm are 8-0 and have one match remaining before the regular-season finale.

“I should be a great match,” Glinski said of Tuesday’s upcoming date with Saranac Lake. “We’re playing well, they’re playing well and we’re the two best teams in the league. It’s just going to come down to who has a better day. Our kids are excited.”

Saranac Lake 6, Moriah 0

RAY BROOK – Ethan Sawyer and Dustin Fischer had the low scores of the day Thursday to lead Saranac Lake to a 6-0 win over Moriah at the Saranac Lake Golf Club in Ray Brook.

With the win, the Red Storm improved to 8-0 in the CVAC.

Sawyer shot a medalist round 38 to top Moriah’s Joe Stahl in the match between each team’s No. 1 player. Fischer followed with a 39 at No. 2 to earn a four-shot win over Dylan Scozzafava, whose 43 was the low round of the day for the Vikings.

In the third match, Austin Ecret carded a 45 to defeat Kyle Wilson, Carley Sawyer shot a 43 to top Brandon Hammond by five shots in the fourth match, Tanner Courcelle fired a 43 to top Nick Rotella at No. 5, and Danny Strack won at No. 6 with a 43 to defeat Ryan Munson.

Saranac Lake next faces Beekmantown on the road Monday at the Adirondack Golf Club.
