Lake Placid girls tennis shoots down Seton
LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid girls tennis team won two singles matches and one at double to secure a 4-1 victory over Seton Catholic on Monday.
Victoria O’Leary, a freshman, won her match at first singles with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over her opponent. Teammate Kayla Hudson swept her third singles match 6-0, 6-0 to account for Lake Placid other singles victory.
Sophie Morelli and Liza Marinis also scored for the Blue Bombers with a 6-4, 6-3 win at first doubles.
Seton Catholic won the boys match 4-1, with Lake Placid lone point coming as a result of a forfeit at No. 2 doubles.
The Lake Placid tennis teams are now headed to postseason play, which begins Friday with state qualifiers in Plattsburgh.
Saranac Lake 6, Beekmantown 0
PLATTSBURGH – The Saranac Lake golf team won its match Monday 6-0 against Beekmantown to set an undefeated showdown against Lake Placid today at the Saranac Lake Golf Club.
The Red Storm and Blue Bombers both enter today’s regular season finale with 9-0 records. The match will determine the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference champion.
The Red Storm got through Beekmantown without much trouble. Ethan Sawyer shot the low round of the day with a 41, followed by Austin Ecret with a 42, Dustin Fischer with a 44, Carley Sawyer with a 44, Danny Strack with a 44 and Tanner Courcelle with a 45.
Beekmantown’s top golfer was Alex Faruqi, who shot a 49 from the No. 1 position.
Today’s match begins at 3:30 p.m. in Ray Brook. The teams will then head to Westport for the Section VII championships Thursday and Friday.
Plattsburgh 8, Lake Placid 2
PLATTSBURGH – The Lake Placid baseball team rounded out its regular season schedule Monday with an 8-2 loss to Plattsburgh.
The Blue Bombers will open Section VII, Class D postseason play Friday on the road against Wells at 4:30 p.m.
Lake Placid scored both its runs in the top of the seventh inning Monday. The Blue Bombers were limited to just five hits in the game, one of which came off the bat of Noah Mohr, who doubled.
Dan Hartman collected three hits and had an RBI to lead Plattsburgh offensively. Teammates Garrett Manchester and Ryan Whalen each had two singles and two RBI.
Heuvelton 14, Saranac Lake 4
HEUVELTON – The Saranac Lake girls lacrosse season came to an end Monday after a 14-4 loss to Heuvelton in the first round of the Section X, Class C playoffs.
Heuvelton, the No. 3 seed, will face No. 2 Canton today in the semifinals. The Red Storm were the sixth seed and finished with an 0-13 record.
Sophie Theron, Meg Turbridy, Lara Stanton and Macy Fischer each scored for Saranac Lake. Goaltender Emily Eaton recorded 21 saves.
Jackie Sovie scored seven goals to lead the Bulldogs offensively. Heuvelton improved to 9-8 with the victory.

EKMW 87, Lake Placid 39
EKMW 66, Lake Placid 64
LAKE PLACID – Sisters Nina and Gabby Armstrong each captured three wins Monday as the Lake Placid track and field team dropped a narrow 66-64 decision against EKMW.
Nina Armstrong, a junior, swept the distance events, winning the 1,500 meter reace in 5 minutes, 20 seconds then taking the 3,000 in 11:53. She was also part of the winning 3,200 relay, joined by Sage Miller, Taylor Barney and Kylie Kroes.
Gabby Armstrong took first place in the 800 with a time of 2:41 and won the high jump after clearing 4 feet, 4 inches. She joined Esther Munoz, Jilly Goulette and Camille Craig to win the 400 relay in 58.5.
Munoz became a two-time winner after winning the long jump with a 13-10.
Nzoni Thompson won two event for the Lake Placid boys team, which fell 87-39 in the team scoring. Thompson took the 400 in 53.0 seconds and the 200 in 23.3.
Halie Snyder won four events – 100 (12.7), 200 (25.7), 400 (58.6) and the 1,600 relay (4:23) – for the EKMW girls.
