Birding festival at VIC
PAUL SMITHS – The 12th Annual Great Adirondack Birding Celebration will be held Friday through Sunday at the Paul Smith’s College VIC.
The public can register for field trips and workshops on an all-festival basis or by individual event. Field trips to various forest and wetland habitats are offered both from 7 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The cost is $40.
Saturday’s workshops include “Bird Sketching with Sheri Amsel” at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. for $10 per 90-minute session, and “Build a Bluebird nest box with Kathy Linker” at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for $15/box.
Free events include the Birds of a Feather Invitational Art show and sale, TR Birding Challenge – a team birdathon at 4 p.m. (Friday), and vendor booth featuring Wild Birds Unlimited of Saratoga Springs and a Deck Sit – an opportunity to sit and record as many bird species as possible from the VIC deck (Saturday).
Noah Strycker, associate editor of “Birding” magazine is the Joseph and Joan Cullman Conservation Foundation keynote speaker for Saturday evening’s lecture, which begins at 7 p.m. His topic is “Bird World,” an exploration of the parallels between bird and human behavior. The public is welcome to attend for $10.
