NYSEF earns high honors

PARK CITY, Utah – At the recent U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) Congress in Park City, Utah, the New York Ski Educational Foundation (NYSEF) was named as a leading Gold Club Development Program.

Nationwide only eight clubs received this distinction. Clubs named in addition to NYSEF were Burke Mountain Academy (East Burke, Vermont), Killington Mountain School (Killington, Vermont), Stratton Mountain School (Stratton, Vermont), Waterville Valley (Waterville Valley, New Hampshire), Buck Hill Ski Racing School (Burnsville, Minnesota), Vail Ski and Snowboard Club (Vail, Colorado), Rowmark Ski Academy (Salt Lake City, Utah). Two additional clubs received silver certified club distinctions: International Snowboard Training Center (Frisco, Colorado) and Sun Valley Education Foundations (Sun Valley, Idaho).

During the past two Winter Olympic Games held in Vancouver in 2010 and Sochi in 2014, 10 NYSEF alumni competed for the USA in alpine, ski jumping, nordic combined and biathlon. The list includes alpine sensation Andrew Weibrecht, who took a bronze at Vancouver and a silver at Sochi in the super-G events and Bill Demong, who made history at Vancouver by taking home gold and silver medals in the nordic combined events.

“This honor was possible as a result of the hard work and dedication of many NYSEF family members including coaches, athletes, volunteers and supporters since NYSEF’s inception in 1973 along with the solid support that ORDA provides on a daily basis,” said NYSEF Executive Director Jay Rand. “NYSEF’s dedicated and professional staff is committed to raise the bar to the highest level possible in order to provide a means for athletes to reach their goals and dreams.

NYSEF is responsible for the administration and program activities at all Olympic venues in Lake Placid and Gore Mountain for competitive skiing in all disciplines, including alpine, cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski jumping, nordic combined and freeride skiing and snowboarding. In joint efforts with the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) countless numbers of events and training sessions at all levels are staged to promote the sport of skiing and provide a means for young skiers to achieve their competitive goals.
